Need State: Recovery

Ever feel sore after training? To be at your best for your next session, recovering correctly is essential.

Why is RECOVERY important?

The aim of recovery is to make the most out of your training, increase adaptations and be ready to train again with minimal fatigue. During high intensity exercise, your body will use up its carbohydrate stores. You must replace this, along with essential electrolytes that are lost through sweat to prepare your body to go again. Fast digesting protein must be consumed to rebuild muscle fibres, reducing muscle breakdown and soreness.

When do I need to be thinking about RECOVERY?

Recovery starts as soon as you finish. This is known as the ‘training window’, which lasts for up to 30 minutes post exercise. This is the optimum time to take on nutrition, as your metabolism remains high. Take on the correct nutrition during this time to allow your body to recover quickly during rest and recuperation.
