Q&A WITH WESTERN UNITED
How did they do?
John Aloisi’s Western United completed a sensational turnaround this season by winning their first A-League Men championship, taking down defending champions and cross-city rivals Melbourne City 2-0. Aleksandar Prijovic made a strong argument for man of the match as he was involved in forcing the own-goal opener before getting on the scoresheet with a typical predatory strike. That Western achieved an A-League title in just three seasons since being established is astonishing in itself, but they did it on the back of last season’s disappointing 10th-place finish and without a permanent home ground. In winning the championship and their first piece of silverware, Western United became only the second team ever outside the top two to achieve the feat.
