    Sodium, potassium and magnesium are key electrolytes that are lost through sweat and need to be replaced in order to maintain body fluid balance alongside appropriate fluid intake. Even a 2-3% loss in body fluid balance can contribute to performance detriments; decreased muscle contraction efficiency and reduced cognitive function contribute to sub-optimal exercise performance. Sufficient hydration buffers these effects and is important for promoting post-exercise recovery.
