That alone raises the stakes for fluid and electrolyte replacement. But the more interesting shift happens over the following two weeks. As acclimatisation progresses, sweat volume increases further still, sometimes dramatically, while sodium concentration in sweat tends to decrease. The body becomes more efficient at conserving sodium even as it produces more sweat overall.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This creates a moving target. Early in a hot-weather training block, you may be losing both more fluid and more sodium per session than you&#8217;re used to. Later in that same block, the volume stays high but the sodium loss per litre drops. A fixed electrolyte strategy applied uniformly across that period won&#8217;t serve you well at either end.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Individual Sweat Profiles Determine Who Is Most at Risk<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The practical implication is that electrolyte needs during hot-weather training are not static, they&#8217;re responsive to where you are in the acclimatisation process, how long and hard you&#8217;re training, and your individual sweat characteristics.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone who sweats heavily and has high sodium concentration in their sweat, a salty sweater, identifiable by the white residue left on skin or kit, faces compounding demands in the heat. Their baseline sodium losses are already elevated, and heat amplifies sweat rate on top of that. During sessions lasting beyond an hour in the heat, electrolyte replacement should run alongside fluid intake rather than after it. Post-session, the priority shifts to restoring both fluid and sodium to support recovery and prepare for the next day&#8217;s load.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The concentration of sodium in your electrolyte product matters here. Products vary considerably, some sit around 250\u2013300mg of sodium per serving, others reach 500mg or beyond. In moderate conditions, the lower end is often sufficient.
