After supporting The Tour 21 team to success in 2015 and 2017, everyone at Science in Sport is pleased to announce that we are the official nutrition partner of this year’s Tour. In June 2021, one week ahead of the professional race, The Tour 21 team will ride the full Tour de France route with the goal of raising over £1m for Cure Leukaemia, the Official Charity Partner of Tour de France in the UK. The Tour 21 takes place Saturday 19th June – Sunday 11th July. The team is made up of 25 amateur cyclists including Geoff Thomas, Cure Leukaemia Patron, former England, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest footballer and leukaemia survivor. This will be Geoff’s final Grand Tour challenge and we’re delighted to confirm we’ll be hosting an exclusive Q&A with Geoff ahead of the Tour to find out more about his experiences with The Tour 21. Geoff and the Team will be fuelled by Science in Sport for all 21 stages and 3,470km of the Tour to raise £1,000,000. Every penny donated to the team will directly help save lives across the UK and quicken progress in securing effective treatments for blood cancer. The Tour 21 Team has raised over £720,000 of the fundraising goal so far. To join us in supporting this meritorious cause, there are two exciting ways you can get involved as well as donating directly to The Tour 21. The first is a virtual challenge using Strava to ride a whopping 248km, the distance of the longest stage of this year’s Tour de France route, between June 19th – July 11th. We encourage you to take part and fundraise at least £100 with your efforts! Cyclists of all abilities are more than welcome; you can complete the distance in one day or over the three weeks of the Tour. All participants will be automatically entered into the prize draw to be announced on June 6th. Sign up for the virtual challenge here. All funds raised will be invested directly into the national Trials Acceleration Programme network. The nationwide expansion of Cure Leukaemia will fund specialist research nurses and clinical roles in 12 blood cancer centres across the United Kingdom to open and run clinical trials for pioneering treatments for the disease. Patients from an increased catchment area of over 20 million people will have access to potentially life-saving treatments that are not currently available through standard care. The second great way to get stuck in is by donating a minimum of £21 to the Ultimate Cycling Raffle. The grand prize is a Pinarello Dogma F12 worth £12,000! You are also in with a chance of winning a jersey signed by the 2021 Tour de France winner, a coffee and cake ride with Ben Foster and Geoff Thomas, a Wahoo Kickr, a Tao Geoghegan Hart Signed Pink Jersey, Parcours custom wheels and much more. Cure Leukaemia Chief Executive James McLaughlin shares that Geoff and all of the team are training “phenomenally hard” to be ready by June 19th and every pound raised is greatly appreciated. The team at Science in Sport is proud to be the official nutrition partner of The Tour 21 and look forward to supporting the team take on this admirable feat.
