Name: Jessie Knight Age: 27 Height: 170cm Sport: Athletics (400m Hurdles) Nationality: British Favourite Food: Italian – Pizza & Pasta are my go-to treat! What are your goals for 2022? To compete for GB in the 400m Hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championships and the European Athletics Championships. To compete and win a medal for England in the 400m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games in front of a home crowd. What is your biggest sporting achievement to date? Earning my first international GB vest in 2021, competing at the European Indoor Championships and getting a silver medal in the 4x400m Relay. Becoming an Olympian and member of Team GB at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in your sport? Find yourself a supportive set up (coach and training group) because although athletics is classed as an individual sport, it is far more enjoyable, and in my case successful, working as a team to achieve your goals! What does a typical training day look like? I train once a day, but sessions are typically 2.5-3 hours long and involve a mix of track sessions, conditioning circuits and gym exercises. The rest of my day is focussed on recovery, nutrition, physio/osteopath appointments and meetings with my psychologist. What is the next big event/race you are working towards? My indoor season commences on February 3rd and will end on 26th/27th February at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships where I aim to retain my title from 2020 in the 400m. What are your favourite products from SIS and how have they helped fuel your training/competition? Before every race and big track session, I use the SiS Go Electrolyte powder which provides me with energy (36g Carbohydrates) and promotes hydration (20mmol/l Sodium). I find it gives me a real boost when I need it and makes me feel alert and ready to compete/train at my best. The Go Electrolyte energy gels are also a great quick energy boost providing 22g carbohydrates and 118mg sodium, so I love to use these as well. For recovery, my go-to SiS product is the whey protein powder which I use within 20 minutes of finishing every training session or race to aid my muscles with the recovery process, supporting lean muscle growth with its high protein content (23g) and low sugar content. Throughout the day, I stay hydrated with the SiS hydro tablets to enable me to train optimally. How important is it to focus on nutrition for your training/sport? When putting your body through the high demands of training, nutrition is crucial in ensuring you have enough energy and nutrients to train optimally. Nutrition is also important in facilitating recovery so your muscles can adapt to the training load and recover for your next session, ensuring you see the best results of your hard work.
