How many carbohydrates can athletes tolerate per hour?

In a world first, our new study shows that athletes can tolerate 120 grams of carbohydrate per hour, significantly higher than the 90 grams previously recommended. Even after three hours of sustained effort, 50% of energy used was from the Science in Sport Beta Fuel, with no cross-over from carbohydrate to fat usage taking place.

And with no differences in carbohydrate oxidation between liquid, gel, chew or a combined approach, the SiS Beta Fuel range can be tailored to your individual fuelling preferences.

How can I use BETA fuel?

As an endurance athlete our Beta Fuel Dual Source can be used on its own to fulfil your fuelling requirements. However, the SiS Beta Fuel range, which also includes the Dual Source Energy Gel + Nootropics, the Dual Source Energy Drink, and Dual Source Energy Chew Bar, can be combined to ensure you easily hit the recommended fuelling target of 80-120 grams of carbohydrate every hour.

Beta Fuel Energy Sports Gel is designed to be absorbed quickly into your gut for fast energy, which can be an advantage compared to eating regular foods during exercise.

Where can I find more fuelling tips?

Our sports nutrition blog, The Feed Station, has plenty of insightful information about training, fuelling guides and our popular sports nutrition products. You can even filter by your chosen sporting discipline for a truly specialised experience. Keep pushing your performance with SiS!
